Hudson senior J.D. Minder-Broeckaert, River Falls junior Jacob Hutchins and St Croix Central senior Trennon Holzer will wrestle for boys state titles, and Hudson junior Mary Prescott and St. Croix Central sophomore Ayda Miller will square off for the girls’ 120-pound title, in the WIAA State Individual Wrestling Tournament finals at the Kohl Center in Madison Saturday night.
Undefeated and No. 2 seed Minder-Broeckaert (54-0) will face top-seeded Kolin DeGroot (26-3) of Kaukauna in the Division 1 165-pound final. Minder-Broeckaert received a first round bye before posting a 9-0 major decision over senior Luke Pember of Menomonie in the quarterfinals, and taking a 2-1 decision from No. 3 seed Carson Bremmer of Verona in Friday’s semifinals.
Hutchins (52-6) enters the Division 1, 190 pound finals as the No. 3 seed and will take on top-seed and undefeated junior Reed Falk of Middleton (51-0). Hutchins needed just 1 minute, 20 seconds to defeat Anthony Pereida of Kenosha by a 172-2 technical fall in the first round, and beat senior Chetan Malkan of Waukesha West, 13-6, in the quarterfinals before earning a 23-7 technical fall over Landen Grow of Beaver Dam in the semifinals…
