Madison police report drop in violent and property crimes in 2025

MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) – The Madison Police Department says the city saw a decrease in violent and property crimes in 2025.

The department said several categories declined over the past year, including shots fired and homicides, burglaries and robberies, stolen autos and theft from autos, and opiate/opioid overdoses.

“Not any of our crimes that we tracked from month to month increased,” explained Madison Police Chief John Patterson. “The ones that I’m sharing with you are the ones that we routinely meet on and, you know, have set the benchmarks for reduction goals.”…
