Going into the final rotation, the Verona Area/Madison Edgewood gymnastics team was on the top of the leaderboard in contention for a top two-finish in the WIAA Division 1 state meet, on Friday, March 6, at Wisconsin Rapids Lincoln High School.
The Sabercatz were mathematically in a position for a top-two finish, but would need some help. The Sabercatz had a 33.21-point lead over Arrowhead and led Franklin/Muskego by 33.84 points.
It was going to take Franklin/Muskego having several falls on the balance beam for VA/ME to clinch a state runner-up finish. Franklin/Muskego had one fall, but they scored a meet-high 36.117 points on the beam to surge ahead of VA/ME, which took third with 141.0832 points. Arrowhead won the Division 1 state title with 144.0164 points and Franklin/Muskego took state runner-up (143.35), 2.26 points ahead of VA/ME.
