Celebrate Pi Day with 10 sweet deals and events

March 14 (or 3-14) is Pi Day, a celebration of the mathematical constant that represents the ratio of a circle’s circumference to its diameter. The number, which has a decimal that goes on infinitely, is most commonly known by its first three digits: 3.14. Pi Day has become an excuse for those that celebrate to also indulge in a slice of pi(e). This weekend, mark March 14 in Madison with art, music and food events.

Arts + Literature Laboratory

Support Madison’s art scene this Pi Day, with a pie painting class at the Arts + Literature Laboratory led by local artist GG (GreenGoodies). From 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m., participants of all ages and experience levels will be guided through the creation of a pie-inspired painting. Registration for the class — which is limited to 15 students — comes with a personal pie from Batch Bakehouse. 111 S. Livingston St.

Bierock

Since the bar and grill is named after a traditional German hand pie, it only makes sense that Bierock would takes part in Pi Day. Starting at 11 a.m. on March 14, the Bierock will serve lemon custard pie bierocks and blueberry pie bierocks, both topped with streusel and vanilla lemon icing. Prefer a savory pie? Bierock also plans to offer cottage pie bierocks, which are filled with ground beef, mashed potatoes, peas, carrots and onions. Pair your pastry with a festive shot of Travis Hasse apple pie or cherry pie liqueur.

After grabbing some comfort food and a drink, settle in for live music from local musician D.P. Knudten, which will kick off at 8 p.m. 2911 N. Sherman Ave.

Hotel Indigo

Embrace your inner nerd with an evening of standup comedy performed by educators and nerds alike. On March 14 at 8 p.m., Cheshire Cat Comedy is putting on a Pi Day Comedy show at Hotel Indigo. The performance will be headlined by decorated Milwaukee comedian, Chastity Washington, and will feature a cast of three other eclectic performers.

For even more Pi Day action, begin your night with a dinner at Hotel Indigo’s in-house restaurant, Palette Bar & Grill. Show your Pi Day Comedy ticket to your server for a free drink (including beer, wine and cocktails) with the purchase of an appetizer. Plus, early ticket buyers will be treated to a free slice of cherry pie. 901 E. Washington Ave.
