Snow Totals Around Southern Wisconsin After Historic March Blizzard

MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) – Snowfall totals are in after our historic March blizzard. Overall, a widespread 6-12 inches fell across southern Wisconsin.

Locally heavier totals were observed across the far north as central and northern Wisconsin experienced the heaviest snowfall with this system.

Totals were especially difficult to measure with the blowing and drifting snow that we experienced throughout the area. This lead to some locally higher and lower amounts. Because of this, snow totals vary rather significantly across the area. Regardless of how heavy the snow was in respective areas, the gusty winds and blowing snow resulted in blizzard conditions. In fact, blizzard warnings were in place throughout the entire state of Wisconsin.

For Madison, this was the first blizzard warning since December 21, of 2012 and only the 6th since 1986. This puts it into perspective just how rare and serious events like this are…
