FITCHBURG, Wis. — A man was arrested for first-degree intentional homicide following a fatal hit-and-run crash involving a bicyclist early Monday morning.
At approximately 7 a.m. officers from the Fitchburg Police Department responded to the 5500 block of E. Cheryl Parkway for a report of a man lying on the bike path with a bicycle next to him. Officers quickly determined this was the result of a hit-and-run crash involving a motor vehicle. The bicyclist, a 59-year-old Madison man was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Dane County Medical Examiner’s Office.
Police said a preliminary investigation determined that the victim had been struck by a pickup truck sometime between 3:50 and 4 a.m. Detectives further determined that the incident was not accidental.
