DOJ: Man killed by Verona officer had hammer on him during shooting

TOWN OF SPRINGDALE, Wis. — The Wisconsin Department of Justice Division of Criminal Investigation says a man who was killed by a Verona police officer on March 15 had a hammer on him prior to the shooting.

A vehicle pursuit that began on the evening of March 15 in Verona ended in the Town of Springdale with an officer killing Eric B. Pottinger, 44, of Madison.
