Dane County citizens scammed out of more than $300,000 combined in two fraud incidents

MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) – The Dane County Sheriff’s Office is warning residents to be vigilant after two instances of computer fraud scammed local citizens out of large amounts of money.

DCSO officials said that both fraud instances originated on the computer, where the victims were told their bank accounts had been hacked.

The victims were then told that they can take specific steps to secure their accounts, including filling out some forms and downloading social media apps to ensure a “more secure communication experience.”…
