Police: Person dead after attempting to light home on fire

MADISON, Wis. — A person is dead after they attempted to light a home on fire on the city’s north side Thursday morning, according to the Madison Police Department.

Police said the incident occurred in the 100 block of Northland Drive just after 12:15 a.m. where a homeowner went outside to see what was going on and when they saw what the person was doing, they returned inside to call 911. During that time, police said the person fled the scene in a vehicle.

A short time later a Dane County Sheriff’s Office Deputy located the vehicle and conducted a traffic stop. Before the deputy reached the vehicle, the subject suffered a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Deputies and other officers immediately rendered aid, but the person later died…
