Neighbors work to buy, preserve land near Lake Kegonsa to prevent development

LAKE KEGONSA, Wis. (WMTV) – A group of neighbors near Lake Kegonsa is working to purchase and preserve a piece of land off Sunnyside near Lake Kegonsa State Park, hoping to protect it from development and maintain its role in the local ecosystem.

The effort, led by the Committee to Preserve Lot 3 Sunnyside, comes after residents learned a developer was interested in building on the property.

“About three months ago, we heard the land was coming up for sale,” said Scott Haumersen, the committee’s treasurer. “We also heard that a developer wanted to put 15 single family homes on there… and so the neighbors immediately mobilized.”

Instead, the group put in its own offer — one that has already been accepted — and is now focused on raising the funds needed to complete the purchase…
