Family, friends mourn loss of beloved co-owner of Atlanta nightclub Opium killed in Gwinnett | New details of her death

ATLANTA — Friends, family and business partners are mourning the loss of Sharell Canty, a prominent figure in Atlanta’s nightlife scene, after Gwinnett County police said she was killed in what investigators are calling a domestic violence-related homicide.

Police said officers responded Sunday morning to a home on Wilkerson Way in Grayson after a neighbor reported a dead person. Investigators later identified the victim as 44-year-old Canty, co-owner of Atlanta’s Opium nightclub.

Authorities charged 48-year-old Stephany Byrom with malice murder, felony murder, aggravated assault and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony. According to arrest warrants, investigators said Byrom shot Canty twice in the head…
