OCALA, Fla. (WCJB) – A Georgia woman is accused of using online vehicle ads to steal tens of thousands of dollars from buyers across several states.
Deputies say 31-year-old Dakota Burchfield was extradited from Douglasville, Georgia, to Marion County on Wednesday and arrested on a warrant for using a computer to defraud to obtain property, two counts of defrauding a victim over the age of 65, and two counts of using a two-way communication device to facilitate a felony.
How the investigation started
According to the Marion County Sheriff’s Office, the case started on Aug. 1, 2026, when a business owner reported he found a dump truck listed online on July 16, 2026, and wired $17,000 to a bank account in Burchfield’s name, but never received the truck.
A property crimes detective subpoenaed Chase Bank, obtained surveillance video of Burchfield opening the account in July 2026, and found other suspicious wire transfers.
