Georgia Toddler Dies After Mother Kept Children in Freezing Woods Overnight, Police Say

Police allege Uriha Ridge went out into the woods with her barely-clothed children to do drugs

A Georgia mother has been charged with felony murder and child cruelty after allegedly keeping her two children out in the woods overnight in sub-freezing temperatures.

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office was allegedly called at around noon on Jan. 16 about a missing woman and her children lost in the wooded area near the Foxhall Resort in Douglasville, where they had been staying.

Workers from the resort helped deputies find the mom and her two kids, aged 3 and 7, “in a wooden area far from the resort hotel where they were staying,” a police statement explains .

“Deputies noted that the children were soaking wet and knew the temperatures had been below freezing throughout the night,” reads the statement.

All three were taken to area hospitals for treatment. The 3-year-old child died from “what is believed to be exposure to the elements.”

No additional information about the child was provided.
