Georgia Cop Accused of Killing Man Found Sleeping in Wendy’s Drive-Thru Wants His Legal Fees Reimbursed

Devin Brosnan was one of two officers previously charged over Rayshard Brooks’ death in June 2020

A police officer previously charged in connection with the death of a man found sleeping at a Georgia drive-thru is suing his union for not paying the attorney fees it reportedly said it would cover.

Devin Brosnan was one of two officers originally charged with Rayshard Brooks’ death in June 2020.

The 27-year-old was found sleeping in a car at an Atlanta Wendy’s. When Brosnan and fellow officer Garrett Rolfe confronted him, Brooks took a taser from one of the officers and ran.

Rolfe fired his gun at the suspect, who died from two gunshot wounds to the back.

In Aug. 2022, charges against both officers were dropped after the use of force was found to be “objectively reasonable.” However, Brosnan had already paid an attorney $250,000.

In a lawsuit filed Friday , the officer said that the International Brotherhood of Police Officers Local 623 had told him when he signed up that it would cover any fees, should he be criminally charged.
