Cobb Sheriff Recognized for ‘Triple Crown’ Accreditation

Cobb County Sheriff Craig Owens was a special guest at the Georgia Senate this week as legislators honored his office for earning accreditation from the top three law enforcement credentialing authorities in the U.S.

Those three groups are the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, American Correctional Association, and the National Commission on Correctional Health Care. The accreditation from all three makes the Cobb Sheriff’s Office one of only 100 sheriff’s offices in the country, and one of five in Georgia, to achieve the distinction.

The Cobb Sheriff’s Office is also one of 13 facilities in the U.S. that holds the National Commission on Correctional Health Care’s Mental Health Accreditation, and it will be the second agency in the country to have partnered with Wellpath, which currently holds this particular accreditation.

State Sen. John Albers, R-Roswell, presented the resolution honoring Owens and his office on the Senate floor.

“Earning the triple crown of certifications is an extraordinary feat,” Albers said. “We oftentimes count on our folks when we dial 911 to help us out and be there in our time of need, and oftentimes we forget to just say ‘thank you’ for all the good they do each and every day in our community.”
