Cobb Delays 4-Story Student Housing Complex

MARIETTA — The Cobb Board of Commissioners delayed hearing the proposal for a four-story student housing development near Kennesaw State University Tuesday.

The board voted 5-0 to continue the case until the next zoning hearing on Oct. 15.

Atlanta-based developer Campus Realty Advisors is proposing a 45-foot-tall building with 154 student apartments and 460 bedrooms at 500 Chastain Center Boulevard, south of Chastain Road.

Zoning Division Manager John Pederson said the applicant had requested more time to work on the case while they continued discussions with KSU.

According to a June rezoning application, Campus Realty builds student housing communities throughout the southeast, including The Beacon in Marietta, which has had full occupancy since opening in 2022.

The units would range from studio apartments to four-bedroom units, with sizes between 547 and 1,397 square feet. There would be 10 one-bedroom, 52 two-bedroom, 22 three-bedroom and 70 four-bedroom apartments.

According to Campus Realty Advisors’ revised site plan, the complex would include a leasing and amenities area, about 418 parking spaces and an active recreation area with a swimming pool in the rear of the property.
