The Cobb County Water System reported an estimated 450 gallon wastewater sewer overflow occurred on Sept. 18.
The overflow, resulting from solids, occurred at 2896 Macedonia Road in Powder Springs and discharged into a tributary of Noses Creek.
The Water System was notified of the overflow on Sept. 18 at 3:15 p.m. and the overflow was stopped on Sept. 18 at 4:30 p.m.
Water System employees upon arrival observed a manhole spilling with an unsecured lid. The escaping sewage left a 25-foot by 50-foot area around the manhole and a 60-foot by 375-foot trail, entering into the tributary. After a jet machine was used to unstop the line, the crew cleaned and spread lime on the affected area. After alleviating the line, the crew walked the creek and noted a black coloration that ran for approximately 500 yards. During their time on-site, the crew did not observe any fish kills.
