Former Student Arrested for Making ‘Hit List’ of Walton, Pope Peers

A former Cobb County student has been arrested for creating a “hit list” of their past peers, police say.

Students at two east Cobb high schools — Walton and Pope — were targets on a list that circulated on social media, the district confirmed Tuesday.

Cobb Police say the list has been traced to one juvenile suspect, a former student, who posted the “Walton High School shooting list,” which included a staff member and school resource officer.

That suspect was arrested and charged with terroristic threats and disruption of the operation of a public school. The identity of the suspect has not been released.

Cobb Police did not immediately respond to confirm which Cobb school the student once attended. The district did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

Since the Sept. 4 shooting at Apalachee High School that killed four people and wounded nine others, the district said over 75 false threats have been made to Cobb schools.

“While they (the threats) have been investigated and not found to be credible threats, they do create anxiety in students and parents and cost a lot of time for staff and police,” the district’s communications team wrote in a Tuesday email to the MDJ.
