Some Jonquil City staff will soon move to an upgraded office space.
The City Council voted 6-0 this week to approve the $1.7 million purchase of a 2.4-acre property to be used as administrative office space for city staff.
The building, which sits about a mile from City Hall, was previously operated by a subsidiary of Georgia Power. According to Cobb County property records, the one-story building was built in 1990 and is just over 10,400 square feet.
Smyrna Mayor Derek Norton said some building renovations would be required before staff settles in. Timeline and cost of those renovations, Norton said, have not yet been discussed.
The departments to move have not yet been decided, but Norton said it’s possible the new space could house staff from utility services, court services and the community development office.
Whichever teams get the nod, Norton said, will happily take the upgrade from the “glorified closets” they are currently working out of in Brawner Hall’s basement.
