Cobb County Water System Reports 3,600 Gallon Sewage Overflow

The Cobb County Water System reported an estimated 3,600 gallon wastewater sewer overflow occurred on Dec. 25.

The overflow, resulting from a structural problem, occurred at 1256 E. Piedmont Road in Marietta, and discharged into a tributary of Sewell Mill Creek.

The Water System was notified of the overflow on Dec. 25 at 12:31 p.m. and the overflow was stopped on Dec. 25 at 3:31 p.m.

Dispatch received a call for 1475 Hembree Station Drive. Upon arrival, the crew observed a manhole spilling with an unsecured lid. A tree had fallen, striking the manhole and causing both damage to the ring and the lid. The escaping sewage left a 10-foot trail and entered the tributary. During their time on-site, no fish kills were observed.
