The Atlanta community is grieving the tragic loss of Sekya Smith, an 18-year-old senior at Carver High School , who was killed in a drive-by shooting on Christmas Eve .
Sekya, a gifted athlete and aspiring basketball player, had dreams of attending Albany State University to study criminal justice and continue her athletic career .
The shooting occurred around 6 p.m. on Smith Street SW in Atlanta’s Pittsburgh neighborhood . Sekya was outside a friend’s house , just down the street from her own home , when the attack happened, according to her mother , Brittany Smith.
Police found Sekya dead at the scene from a gunshot wound.
“I’m heartbroken . She had so much to look forward to,” Brittany said as she seeks answers and justice for her daughter .
A Life Full of Promise
Sekya was a multi-talented athlete, excelling in basketball, softball , and track . She was set to graduate in May and had already planned her next chapter at Albany State University.
