Suspected New Orleans Attacker was Married to Marietta Woman

The man who plowed a pickup truck into a New Orleans street filled with pedestrians in the early hours of New Year’s Day, killing 14 and wounding dozens more, was once married to a Marietta woman.

DeKalb County divorce court records show that 42-year-old Shamsud-Din Jabbar, who the FBI has identified as the suspect in the attack, was married for less than three years to a woman living in Marietta in the mid-2010s.

The pair wed on Sept. 15, 2013. Jabbar, who is listed in records as living at a Clarkston address, filed for their divorce, which was granted on Aug. 1 2016. It is unclear if Jabbar ever lived in the Marietta home. An attempt to contact his ex-wife Thursday morning via phone call and text was unsuccessful.

Records indicate that the couple did not have children, but show that Jabbar had two children from a previous relationships, ages 15 and 20. Court records from 2016 state that the children lived fulltime with their mother.

Georgia State University officials confirmed that Jabbar began taking classes at the school in 2015 and graduated with a B.B.A. in Computer Information Systems in 2017. Officials were not able to confirm if he ever lived in student housing on campus or if he was ever a registered member of any student organizations.
