Chattanooga doctor and Georgia practice settle Medicare fraud allegations

ROME, Ga. (WDEF) — Dr. Robert Burkich, of Chattanooga, Tennessee, and his Ringgold, Georgia-based practice, Preventive Medicine Anti-Aging & Chelation, Inc., have agreed to pay $700,000 to settle allegations of submitting false claims to Medicare for unnecessary chelation therapy.

Federal authorities allege that between September 2009 and January 2017, Dr. Burkich billed Medicare for administering edetate calcium disodium (EDTA) to patients who did not suffer from lead poisoning, falsely claiming they did to obtain payments.
