ATLANTA — Gov. Brian Kemp announced Monday he is asking ICE to train 1,100 state officers under his command in federal immigration law enforcement functions under 287(g) provisions.
The 287(g) program allows ICE to deputize state and local law enforcement officers for certain immigration enforcement aspects, including arrests and interrogations.
The governor said in a release the training allows ICE to “delegate to state and local law enforcement officers the authority to perform specified immigration officer functions under the agency’s direction and oversight.” Gov.
