Following a fatal incident at Atlanta’s Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport, the family of Luis Aldarondo Jr. has filed a wrongful death lawsuit against Delta Air Lines, alleging negligence in worker safety. According to FOX 5 Atlanta, the lawsuit claims Delta failed to implement proper safety measures for workers servicing high-pressure aircraft tires, which led to Aldarondo’s death on August 27, 2024.
Filed in Gwinnett County State Court on Friday last week, the lawsuit is led by Sonia Y. Cruz, representing Aldarondo’s estate and their minor children. The complaint follows an investigation by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), which identified deficiencies in Delta’s safety protocols. The lawsuit points to Delta’s failure to require safety devices such as hydraulic clamps or safety cages during the maintenance of pressurized multi-piece aircraft rims.
Delta spokesperson Samantha Moore Facteau responded, stating, “At Delta, nothing is more important than safety. Following the tragic incident involving three team members late last summer, we launched a thorough investigation and have already implemented corrective actions that are consistent with those provided by OSHA,” as per 11Alive report. However, the lawsuit seeks compensation for Aldarondo’s death, funeral expenses, pain and suffering, and punitive damages.
