GBI Investigates Fatal Officer-Involved Shooting in Dallas, GA Following Welfare Check Confrontation

An officer-involved shooting in Paulding County is currently under investigation by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI), following an incident that resulted in the death of a 22-year-old man. On Thursday, deputies from the Paulding County Sheriff’s Office responded to a home on Hemlock Glen in Dallas, GA, to perform a welfare check. According to a statement from the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, during the encounter, Jameel Johnson’s mother disarmed him of a rifle before deputies entered the room where he was located.

Upon entering the bedroom, a confrontation erupted where Johnson, armed with a handgun, fired multiple times towards the deputies, injuring one. The deputies, caught in Johnson’s mother’s house, returned fire, ultimately resulting in Johnson’s death. The GBI’s preliminary report details the chain of events leading to the tragic outcome.
