ATLANTA — A new report tracking the effects of gentrification and Black population displacement across the last half century in a number of U.S. cities found Atlanta lost more than 40% of its majority-Black Census tracts between 1980-2020.
The report was released this week by the National Community Reinvestment Coalition. Of 10 metro areas listed with the most majority-Black Census tracts in 1980, Atlanta lost more (13) than cities including Chicago, Detroit, New Orleans and Philadelphia. Only Los Angeles, Washington and New York metros lost more.
