The breach was identified after unusual activity was detected on the network, prompting an immediate investigation. It was discovered that an unauthorized person accessed and copied files from within the county’s systems sometime between March 6, 2025, and March 21, 2025.
In response to this event, Cobb County has taken steps to quickly to further enhance the protection of their systems, including reassessing current security policies and implementing additional safeguards. The types of compromised data possibly include names, Social Security numbers, driver’s license or state identification card numbers, and financial account information. Cobb County emphasizes that protecting the confidentiality and integrity of this information is of the utmost seriousness.
