Trial begins for Atlanta father accused of starving 4-year-old to death in ‘house of horrors’

ATLANTA — From the outside, the McWeay home on Renfrew Court appeared “peaceful,” “quiet” and “fun” when investigators arrived in December 2023. Prosecutors said there were Christmas decorations on the front and toys scattered in the yard.

But inside it was a “house of horrors,” Fulton County Deputy District Attorney Marshal Hodge told jurors during opening statements Tuesday. She described an isolating, controlling and violent environment that she believe led to the death of 4-year-old Treasure McWeay.

“He controlled everything, so no one got in — not even law enforcement,” she said. “Until Treasure died.”…
