Smyrna sees big turnout at city’s inaugural Juneteenth celebration

SMYRNA — More than 1,000 people gathered at Village Green Park to celebrate the city’s first ever Juneteenth festival Thursday evening, a free event filled with live entertainment and family activities.

The celebration had a turnout of 1,000 to 2,000, according to the Smyrna Police Department. Locals gathered to commemorate the abolition of slavery in the United States.

The weather was in favor of the day’s events, as sunshine poured over the festivities. Families walked up and down the row of vendors eating ice cream and the grass became a sea of lawn chairs as locals took in the live entertainment…
