Suspect accused of assaulting officer during arrest at Smyrna QuikTrip

Jovaun Anthony Mason, 29, of Waterbury, Connecticut, is accused of resisting arrest on Aug. 4 at 10:48 a.m. at QuikTrip, 2671 Spring Road in Smyrna, according to an arrest warrant from the Smyrna Police Department.

Mason proceeded to strike an officer in the face with a closed fist causing multiple lacerations to his lips. While actively fighting with the officer, Mason picked up the officer’s taser weapon that had fallen on the ground and deployed a cartridge that struck the officer’s boot, according to the warrant.

Mason is charged with obstruction felony; aggravated assault; and battery – simple battery – police. He was arrested on Aug. 4 at 11:30 a.m. and booked into the Cobb County Adult Detention Center, according to jail records…
