In Acworth, two former Dairy Queen managers have been accused of defrauding the restaurant they once oversaw, allegedly embezzling over $40,000 through various schemes. The police have charged Sherif Mousa and Sherif Awad with a multi-tiered series of thefts that include credit card fraud and payroll fraud. According to FOX 5 Atlanta, the duo is alleged to have redirected customers’ credit card payments into personal accounts, siphoning around $27,000 over four months.
Adding to this, investigators claim the managers continued to craftily issue checks to a former employee—checks they are then accused of forging and cashing for themselves. This secondary scam supposedly netted an additional $17,000. “The employees were using a payment terminal and diverting funds from the customers’ transactions to their own bank accounts,” Sgt. Erik Mistretta with Acworth Police told FOX 5 Atlanta in an evocative explanation of the credit card scheme.
These fraudulent acts came to light when another manager, conducting an audit, noticed irregularities in the restaurant’s financial records. Subsequently, the Acworth Police mobilized, piecing together the case through interviews and evidence, which resulted in warrants for their arrests.
