Hart County Deputies Arrest Driver After 115 mph Pursuit From Safety Checkpoint

HART COUNTY, Ga. – Early Saturday morning, December 6, 2025, a driver was arrested after attempting to evade a safety checkpoint and leading Hart County deputies on a high-speed chase exceeding 115 mph.

Around 2:15 a.m., deputies were operating a safety checkpoint at the four-way intersection of Lavonia Highway and Junction 77 Road when a blue 2005 Toyota 4-Runner tried to avoid the checkpoint by cutting through a nearby gas station. Deputies moved to conduct a traffic stop, but the driver fled north on Lavonia Highway toward Lavonia at dangerous speeds.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, the driver attempted to make a left turn onto Bartlett Road but missed the turn and drove off the roadway, crossing an open field. Deputies continued the pursuit and were able to pin in the vehicle at the bottom of the field near the wood line…
