ATLANTA — An average of 13 people die every day waiting for an organ transplant, and an Atlanta News First investigation found that in Georgia in 2024 alone, one in six organs were never transplanted.

In 2023, Cesar Hernandez died from an aortic rupture at the age of 51. He was an organ donor who also agreed to a full-body harvest, which includes donating skin, eyes and tissue.
