DUI arrest in Cobb leads to drug bust, child endangerment charges

Ahkeel Atkins, 30, of Austell, is accused of driving under the influence of drugs with his 10-year-old daughter in the back seat on March 19 at 11:45 p.m. at the intersection of Baker and Cowan roads, according to an arrest warrant from the Cobb County Police Department.

Atkins was operating a 2024 Buick SUV while under the influence of marijuana when he made a right turn from George Busbee Parkway to Wade Green Road to the left straight lane. Police observed his eyes were glassy and watery, his carotid artery was pulsing, he was speaking slowly, his movements were uncoordinated/clumsy and his pupils were constricted, according to the warrant.

Police found Atkins in possession of about 287 grams of marijuana that was individually packaged in 14 different bags, five pre-rolled marijuana cigarettes and numerous plastic bags commonly used for the sale of marijuana and a scale that had marijuana residue on it…
