Repeat Drug Offender Sentenced to 25 Years In Hopkins County Following Nearly a Decade of Missed Opportunities

SULPHUR SPRINGS—A Hopkins County drug dealer who was given multiple opportunities to turn his life around has now been sentenced to a total of 25 years in prison after years of continued criminal activity and repeated violations of court-ordered rehabilitation efforts. The sentence ends numerous efforts by the court system to help Delgado Torres overcome addiction and avoid a felony criminal record.

By statute, that sentence will begin only after Delgado Torres paroles on the 20-year sentence, bringing his total prison sentence to 25 years. He also received additional prison sentences for multiple felony drug possession cases, which will run concurrently.

As part of the plea agreement, Delgado Torres admitted responsibility for additional felony and misdemeanor offenses currently pending in Hunt County. Those cases remain subject to prosecution and could carry additional penalties. Delgado Torres’ criminal history began in May 2016 when he was arrested for multiple felony drug distribution offenses, including selling Xanax and attempting to distribute drugs near both Bright Star Christian School and Pacific Park. While out on bond for those charges, he was arrested again later that year for possessing THC and ecstasy…
