Frisco’s long-anticipated Northwest Community Park will officially throw open its gates on September 19, with a grand opening celebration running from 8 to 10 a.m. that includes a ribbon-cutting ceremony, a fun run, a bike ride, refreshments, and free play across the grounds. After the morning festivities wrap, the park at 13770 Teel Pkwy will stay open all day for residents to explore its trails, playgrounds, and prairie land.
The celebration caps years of planning and roughly $40 million in public investment. According to Play Frisco – Parks & Recreation, the September 19 event marks the formal debut of a park the city has billed as its first cycling-focused destination. Frisco City Council approved a $34.21 million construction contract with Millis Development and Construction back in November 2024, along with a separate $3.45 million contract dedicated to specialized bike facilities, according to Community Impact.

From Ball Fields to Blackland Prairie
The site wasn’t always destined for jump lines and gravity ramps. The city originally purchased the land north of Lone Star High School to build traditional athletic fields, but Community Impact reports that leaders pivoted toward a bike-focused prairie park after a temporary trail built in 2012 proved unexpectedly popular and existing ball fields already met municipal demand.
