The man who stole a plane from the Addison airport and then intentionally crashed in Fannin County was apparently on a suicide run.
A Fannin County Justice of the Peace tells KRLD News the medical examiner has concluded 23-year-old Logan James intended to take his own lif e as he transmitted his last communication with the Addison Airport control tower.
In an air traffic control recording heard on liveatc.net , James turned off the plane’s communications systems after stating his plans to travel to East Texas in the aircraft.
The Addison Police Department and Texas DPS say the aircraft, a single-engine Cessna 172, was stolen from ATP Flight School in Addison and crashed a short time later in an open field about 80 miles northeast in Fannin County on January 25.
The pilot, identified as Logan James from Stokesdale, NC was pronounced deceased at the scene. There were no other passengers in the aircraft.
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the National Transportation Safety Board are still investigating.
