Denton Police arrest suspect in murder at abandoned property

DENTON, Texas – The Denton Police Department has arrested 53-year-old Michael Tooley, charging him with the murder of 20-year-old Dylan Gurley, whose body was discovered in an abandoned house on July 23. Responding to a call about an unconscious person at the 3700 block of Holland Lane, officers found Gurley and quickly transported her to the hospital, where she was pronounced dead. An investigation revealed that both Tooley and Gurley had been residing at the abandoned property. According to witness statements, Tooley had expressed anger over missing money on the day of the murder and had previously threatened violence against anyone he suspected of theft. Further inquiries highlighted a pattern of disturbances between Tooley and Gurley. Despite Tooley’s denial of involvement in her death, evidence from his jail phone conversations and the consistency of their locations during the murder timeline led to his arrest on August 16. Tooley remains in custody at the Denton County Jail, awaiting bail determination for the murder charge.
