THE COLONY, Texas – The Colony police say a homeless man camping out in an empty field during the winter weather was killed in a fire.

What we know: — Police say they received several 911 calls Friday around 6 a.m. about a brushfire in an empty field between Home Depot and Rooms To Go off State Highway 121.
Once firefighters extinguished the flames, a homeless man was found dead in the debris.
