McKinney, Texas – In a continued effort to build a stronger workforce and economy, Governor Greg Abbott announced the award of four Skills Development Fund (SDF) grants totaling $1,352,957 to Collin County Community College District, commonly known as Collin College. The grants were awarded by the Texas Workforce Commission (TWC) and will be used to deliver specialized workforce training to more than 840 workers in Collin County.
Boosting Skills for High-Demand Jobs
These grants will help train both new and current employees at 13 local businesses across a variety of fast-growing sectors, including healthcare, accounting, manufacturing, and technology. The initiative is aimed at addressing workforce gaps and preparing Texans for high-demand occupations that offer long-term growth and stability.
“Investing in our workforce is critical for the success of the Texas economy,” said Governor Abbott. “The more than $1 million in grant funding will provide customized technical training for over 840 workers in high-demand industries in Collin County. I thank the Texas Workforce Commission for their partnership with community colleges across the state to ensure Texans have the skills they need to thrive in the economy of tomorrow. This is all part of the better jobs and bigger paycheck opportunities that we continue to provide in Texas.”
TWC Chairman Bryan Daniel emphasized the value of these efforts, adding, “Skills Development Fund grants help train new and current workers for many in-demand occupations. With the grants awarded today, Collin County Community College District and their local business partners can address critical workforce demands and help Texans find successful career paths.”
Breakdown of Grant Allocations
The four SDF grants presented to Collin College will support customized training programs for employees across multiple industries. The details of the grants include:
- $362,157 to train 370 workers at Natural Polymer, Cain Watters & Associates, Cates Control Systems Inc, and Fiber Systems International. Training areas include fiber optics, industrial wiring, inventory management, and more.
- $478,770 to train 227 workers at AXL LLC, Encore Wire Corporation, and StatLab LLC. Training will focus on electrical and mechanical maintenance, project management, and computer-related services.
- $353,072 to train 169 workers at CSG Forte Payments Inc., FlexLink Systems Inc., Netrio, and Portable Solar in fields such as healthcare, accounting, solar energy, and computer systems design.
- $158,958 to train 78 workers at Helm Dental Laboratory LLC and Unicom Engineering. This grant will support training in risk management, project management, and manufacturing.
