PROVIDENCE VILLAGE, Texas — The McKinney Housing Authority has filed a lawsuit alleging racial discrimination against a North Texas homeowners association that has been embroiled in controversy.
According to the lawsuit, the housing authority is suing the Providence Homeowners Association and FirstService Residential Texas, accusing the two entities of engaging in a sustained campaign of racial discrimination by adopting and enforcing rules excluding MHA tenants from participating in the Housing Choice Voucher program. All of these tenants, the suit adds, are Black women.
“These actions were taken with knowledge of their discriminatory impact, amidst widespread racially charged rhetoric in community forums, and in violation of MHA’s rights under federal housing law,” the suit reads…
