Abbott signs bills boosting Texas homestead exemptions amid broader tax relief efforts

Governor Greg Abbott has enacted three new laws aimed at providing substantial property tax relief for Texas residents. The signing took place at a ceremony held at Robson Ranch Clubhouse in Denton, where House Bill 9, Senate Bill 4, and Senate Bill 23 were officially made law.

“When I became Governor, the homestead exemption was $15,000,” stated Governor Abbott. “With Senate Bill 4, the homestead exemption is now $140,000, an almost 1,000% increase. Seniors’ homestead exemption now goes all the way up to $200,000. This session, we also spent $50 billion on property tax relief. This is truly unprecedented – no state in American history has devoted such a large percentage of their budget to tax relief.”
