Driver shoots self on I-35 while fleeing shooting, causes wreck, say Texas police

A suspect who’d fled the scene of a shooting turned the gun on himself while driving Sunday on Interstate 35 in Central Texas, police said.

The shooting took place in Mesquite, just east of Dallas, according to police in the city of West, which sits about 15 miles north of Waco. A police officer in West became aware of the suspect about 11:20 a.m. and observed the suspect vehicle, a silver Ford Focus, traveling south on I-35, police Chief Chris White said in a news release.

The driver turned the gun on himself while still traveling south as he approached Tours Road in West, according to the release. The officer was following the vehicle and waiting for back-up agents to arrive…
