Thousands of devotees across the globe flocked to Allen July 8-12 for the Gita Utsav and Guru Purnima 2025. The weeklong celebration was hosted by the SGS Gita Foundation and Karya Siddhi Hanuman Temple of Frisco and was capped off by a Bhagavad Gita Parayana, featuring more than 2,000 people chanting the 700-verse scripture simultaneously.
The annual celebration marks the final recitation for thousands of memorizers across the globe who learn the entire text in just 10 months. Program coordinator Srikanth Datta said, “It is an intense program as well because of the nature of the task at hand, which is to memorize 700 verses, which is pretty much like a book of 150 pages or so.”
The Bhagavad Gita, a foundational text of Hinduism, was said to be delivered by the philosopher Krishna to the warrior Arjuna on the battlefield of Kurukshetra. It is considered a manual for life for Hindus across the globe…
