Salvation Army street volunteers seek out to help vulnerable amid Texas heat

The extreme heat is not stopping volunteers from walking blocks at a time to hand out water to those experiencing homelessness.

“It was a blessing. It was like God, you know, it was like a spirit moved the way it just popped up,” Bernard Hodge said. Hodge said he was on his way to search for ice-cold water when he met Maxie DeBlanc.

DeBlanc is a Captain with the Salvation Army of North Texas. During this summer, volunteers and leaders of the Salvation Army North Texas have used their mobile feeding units across the metroplex to offer basic resources as part of their heat relief services…
