Plano cops crack down on high-octane theft ring, $1.1M in losses

Plano detectives have dismantled a brazen theft ring responsible for stealing 29 Camaro and Corvette sports cars, cumulatively valued at $1.1 million, across more than a dozen North Texas cities in just two months.

Beginning in March, thieves targeted cars parked at gyms and apartment complexes – scoping out locations under the cover of darkness, returning later to swipe the vehicles, and even posting joyride videos on Instagram to show off their loot.

After the streak of thefts, Plano police zeroed in on a network of storage units rented in the thieves’ names, staging surveillance and eventually recovering several of the stolen cars…
