Vidor — A meeting held by the True Texas Project at the Holiday Inn in Vidor sparked a counter-protest on Tuesday night. The group gathered to discuss concerns about a proposed Islamic community development in Plano, known as “Epic City,” which is planned to be a self-sustaining community surrounding the East Plano Islamic Center.
The True Texas Project has publicly expressed concerns about the development, citing what they claim is discrimination based on Sharia law. However, the meeting was met with opposition from local protesters who accused the group of spreading hate and misinformation.
Olive Elkins, a protest organizer, said, “I love people and I can’t sit idly by while there are organizations who are coming into our town to spread hate and misinformation and demonize a group of people who are 300 miles away and have nothing to do with anybody who lives here.”…
