Frisco is stepping into the future of policing. On Sept. 2, 2025, the city council approved a $427,500 award to establish a drone as a first responder (DFR) program for the Frisco Police Department.
Funded by allocations from the Northern Collin/Denton County Auto Theft Task Force grant, the initiative will give officers new tools to combat motor vehicle crimes across the region.
What The Program Includes
The grant will cover multiple DFR systems, providing a full suite of hardware, software and services. Hardware includes drones, cameras, batteries and docks, while the software package features remote piloting, air traffic awareness, spectator view, a mobile app and a community engagement dashboard. Services will span FAA regulatory support, standard operating procedure development, training and ongoing maintenance.
From Frisco’s Real Time Information Center (RTIC), certified pilots will operate drones, launching them in response to emergency calls or license plate reader (LPR) alerts.
Regional Collaboration With Prosper
The program also allows Frisco police to join forces with the Prosper-led Northern Collin/Denton County Auto Theft Task Force. Prosper became the first agency in Texas to deploy the Flock Aerodome DFR 2.0 system in May, a network of automated drone docks capable of rapid-response flights. Using advanced radar, automated flight technology and integration with LPR and Flock911 systems, the drones can reach emergency scenes in as little as 86 seconds and fly up to 400 feet…
