Out-of-state students can tackle Texas and overcome university loneliness

As students get into the hang of their classes, many have already reconnected with friends made in high school. For out-of-state students, those connections are not always readily available. Without spending hundreds of dollars on travel, the nearest familiar face is through a video screen.

According to the university’s 2024-2025 Fall Fact Sheet, out-of-state students make up just 3.16 percent of student enrollment, making it difficult to find others like them.

College is a fresh start for everyone, regardless of their background, whether in-state or out-of-state. However, it is an isolating realization for a new student to take in they have no one from home to lean on. While many in-state students can readily reach out to their support systems and navigate the challenges of university independence, out-of-state students’ options are not as available…
